Jigsaw Licensing Mandatory Upgrade

Written by Peter Davies | Oct 13, 2015 10:56:19 AM

On Friday, 9th October the licensing server we use to validate your access to Jigsaw went down. Or rather, the issue was that a very specific URL was used to validate the license and the hosting company moved the server to another rack and that caused the licensing validation to not be able to find the server.

We use a 3rd partly licensing system and obviously none of us were happy that such a small change could cause such a major issue. The hosting company changed back to the original rack but they have given us only until Friday 16th October, at which point they will move it back. So that means all customers need to upgrade.

Obviously, the 3rd party licensing plug in has been changed so that it is no longer so sensitive. So the short term solution is to upgrade Jigsaw. You can upgrade any time before they make the move and it will work regardless of where the server is sitting.

Longer term, we are looking for alternatives. When we first moved to a more professional, automated licensing system, we contacted  a lot of companies. In most cases, the moment we told them we were in the financial/trading industry, they politely refused to deal with us.

We can thank all the scammers for that state of affairs but basically these licensing companies want nothing at all to do with our industry. We even got knocked back by a company that deals in licensing porn sites.

What we need is redundancy in the system and perhaps also a period of grace in the licensing code, where if you cannot access the licensing system for a period - you can still use the tools. Of course, we need to do that in such a way that hackers don't use it to circumvent licensing entirely.

Be assured that we are working on this.

My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience.

For now - please go to our downloads page and upgrade to the latest version
